Help Lucas Nguyen Make Waves for Team USA!

Hey y’all! I’m Lucas Nguyen, and I’m a 14-year-old athlete with a passion for dragon boat racing. I am excited to share that I have the incredible opportunity to represent Team USA this summer in Germany! This is a dream come true for me, and I need your help to make it happen!

My journey started two years ago the first time I stepped into a dragon boat and felt the power of 22 synchronized people making the boat effortlessly glide. Since then, I have dedicated myself to this sport, training hard and developing my skills. This sport has taught me not just discipline, but also teamwork, perseverance, fortitude, and humility. Throughout this journey, my mother has been my number one fan, having attended every one of my races. I couldn’t have come this far without her unconditional support.

Today, I am a proud member of the Houston Heat Dragon Boat Club, where I have received exceptional support from many of its key coaches and teammates dedicated to helping me succeed. Their guidance, encouragement, and camaraderie have been instrumental in my development as a young athlete. I am also a high school freshman, where I strive to balance academics with athletics. When I’m not paddling, I enjoy playing guitar, which is, to me, pretty relaxing.

This summer, I will be traveling to Germany to compete with Team USA in the 17th IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships. To me, this is an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the greatest athletes in the world. It’s an opportunity to go beyond my limits, represent my nation, and make lifelong memories with my teammates.

To prepare for this incredible opportunity, I am focusing on a diverse training regimen that includes:

Martial Arts – Martial arts help me develop strength, discipline, and muscular endurance.
Cardio/Running – Stamina and breathing are crucial on the boat, especially on races over 1 kilometer.
OC-1 (One-Man Outrigger Canoe) Sessions – Training in this type of vessel helps me refine my technique and build stamina without relying on my other teammates. The OC-1 is useful for showing how much power I generate on my own, which translates to my performance on the dragon boat.
Lone Star Dragons – I train with the premier Texas team comprising of talented paddlers from Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Why I Need Your Support: Training and competing for Team USA involves various expenses, including:

Travel Costs – Getting to Germany for the competition requires significant travel expenses.
Equipment – I need high-quality paddles, gear, and uniforms to perform at my best.
Training Camps – Attending training camps is essential for honing my skills and building teamwork with my fellow athletes.

To reach my goal of raising $5,000, I reach out to you guys – my friends, family, and community – for support. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help me get closer to representing my country in this amazing sport.
